No. 4 Wildcats Best Fire

LAKELAND, Fla.—Against a tough team in No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan Thursday afternoon, the Fire failed to register a team point, dropping the contest by a score of 6-0.

The no. 1 doubles matchup was the closest of the three doubles pairings, as Sharienne Ricardo and Angelique Myrtil forced Alex Mella and Lizzie Bauss to 11 games, but were unable to defeat the top duo. SEU faced an uphill battle heading into the second half of the match following the three doubles losses.

In singles competition, Gabby Marshall and Nicole Backherms each pushed their opponents to 6-3 decisions at no. 3 and no. 4 singles, respectively. However, Indiana Wesleyan clinched the team victory with wins at the no. 4-6 singles competitions before the no. 1-3 slots could be determined.

The battle with IWU marked the sixth time in 11 matches this year that women’s tennis has faced a nationally ranked opponent.

Southeastern will cap off its six-match homestand with a contest versus Missouri Baptist on Monday. Competitions are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Edgewood Tennis Center.
