Behan Garners All-Region Accolade

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue’s offensive leader Jenny Behan added another accolade to her resume Thursday as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named her to the All-Midwest Region second-team. The regional award is the first of Behan’s career and the 44th in Purdue softball history.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2019 NFCA Division I All-American squads. The 2019 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org.

Behan’s all-region honor comes just one week after she was named first-team All-Big Ten for a second-consecutive year. Behan is only one of two Boilermakers to receive first-team honors twice in their collegiate careers, joining Andie Varsho, who garnered first-team honors in 2013 and 2014.

The third baseman is also the first Boilermaker to earn an all-region selection since teammate Mallory Baker earned second-team honors in 2017.

Earlier this season Behan also became the first Boilermaker since 2015 to be recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week after guiding Purdue to a 4-1 showing at the Diamond 9 Citrus Class. In the tournament, she tallied nine hits and nine RBI.

Statistically, Behan is Purdue’s leading force at the plate since joining the Boilermakers in 2018. The Mundelein, Illinois native guides the Boilermakers in batting average (.368), slugging percentage (.672), on-base percentage (.475), RBI (40), hits (64) and sacrifice flies (4) this season. She also tops the Boilermakers with 13 home runs on the year, which is good for the second-most home runs in a season in program history. Defensively, Behan owns a .912 fielding percentage with a team-best 126 assists and 50 putouts.
