MISHAWAKA, Ind. — After a high-scoring matinee loss and a nightcap pitching duel win, the Bethel Pilots (9-11, 4-8) won the US Highway 20 Cup series 3-1 over the Goshen Maple Leafs (3-17, 2-10) on Saturday.

GAME 3

Goshen got on the board first from an RBI single in the top of the second, then scored a second run on a passed ball, but the Pilots tied the game from a two-RBI single by Elijah Gaines in the bottom of the third, 2-2.

The top of the sixth saw two Maple Leaf runs from an RBI single to center and a bases-loaded hit batter before Bethel scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth, followed by an RBI single through the right side and a delayed double steal to make it a 6-4 BU lead.

In the top of the seventh, Goshen scored on a sacrifice fly to left, but BU tacked on four more runs that included a two-run homer by Adam Walters, 10-5 Bethel.

Goshen took the lead in the top of the eighth from a sac fly to left, walked in a run, and a grand slam 11-10.

Sitterly tied the game off an RBI single to right, but Goshen took control in the top of the ninth with a two-RBI double to left center and a passed ball that let in a run.

Konner Lake (1-1) was given the loss after entering in relief in the eighth.

GAME 4

Adam Walters (2-1) was shoulders deep in a pitching duel with the Maple Leafs only allowing three hits, walking three and striking out two in 81 pitches for an impressive shutout victory.

With extra innings looming, Walters helped secure his own win by drawing a full-count walk to win the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out.

The Pilots prepare for the Huntington series at Forest Glen Park in Huntington, Ind. March 21-22.
