MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Pilot and Holy Cross faithful showed up for the Men’s Soccer season opener in a gradual 3-1 win on Saturday.
Holy Cross struck first in the 11th minute by Juan Perez in one of the only two shots for the Saints in the first half.
The Pilots answered with two goals, one from Jona Toussaint in the 14th minute unassisted and another from Piero Sabroso assisted by Sami Charaf Amal in the 21st minute to go into halftime up 2-1.
Sabroso scored again in the 86th minute to seal the win for the Pilots and grow the lead to 3-1. Bethel holds a three-game win streak over Holy Cross and has an all-time record of 5-4-0 and 2-1-0 at Morey Field.
The Pilots put up 14 shots and seven on frame while successfully preventing any shots on frame from Holy Cross.
“It’s always important to start the season off with a win,” said head coach Thiago Pinto, “we have a lot to improve and the guys are humble and hungry to get better.”
