Bethel Men’s Volleyball slams Roosevelt

CHICAGO, Ill. –The Bethel Pilots (11-9, 5-4) defeated the Roosevelt University Lakers (2-13, 0-0) 3-1 in the Goodman Center on Tuesday evening.

Ling Pak Him set a new personal high for service aces (three), which he displayed in the second set back-to-back.

McGwire Eigenrauch totaled 33 assists and set his season high for aces (two).

Thomas Dunkley led the team in kills with twelve and recorded three blocks and one ace.

Christian Woumnga recorded 11 kills and set a season-high for points scored within a single game (16).

In the opening set, Roosevelt claimed an early 4-0 lead, beginning with an attacking error by Bethel.

Santana Roybal-Benson scored the first earned kill of the set (4-1).

The Pilots secured a four-point run mid-set that put them above the Lakers 16-14, ending with a kill by Christian Woumnga.

McGwire Eigenrauch put the first set in the books at 25-20 with a service ace.

In the second set, Ling Pak Him scored the first earned kill to tie the score 2-2 and continued to be an offensive force by giving Bethel a three-point lead with his three aces (7-4).

Christian Woumnga recorded an ace to bring Bethel’s point total 18-11.

Santana Roybal-Benson recorded the set-winning kill following an assist by McGwire Eigenrauch.

Bethel claimed the second set 25-20.

In the third set, Roosevelt challenged Bethel with an early 6-3 lead.

Ling Pak Him retied the score 7-7 with a kill.

The Pilots stayed within two points of the Lakers until Roosevelt scored four consecutive points to bring the Lakers to a 25-19 victory.

In the final set, Bethel got its first point on the board following a service error by Roosevelt.

Thomas Dunkley initiated a crucial five-point run for the Pilots in the latter half of the set, as Bethel led by two (19-17).

The Pilots exhibited exceptional blocking, scoring the last three points of the run-off of blocks by Christian Woumnga, Thomas Dunkley, and Santana Roybal-Benson (23-17).

Christian Woumnga secured the final point for the Pilots with a kill from McGwire Eigenrauch.

Bethel took the final set 25-19 for an overall 3-1 win over the Roosevelt Lakers.

The Pilots will next compete against the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers in McHie Arena on Friday, Mar. 21, at 8:00 PM EST.
