MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots’ Women’s Soccer team (4-1-1) tied the Vanguard Lions (2-1-3) in a late-game comeback to avoid the loss on Monday.

The Lions commanded possession in the early minutes and created some open looks that sophomore keeper Jael Schubert saved on a slide. Vanguard’s Francesca Lindstrom struck first when she fired the match’s first goal on a one versus two matchup.

Bethel battled back in the 18th minute as Aubrey Vervynckt connected with Audrey Lerch for her fifth goal of the season and Vervynckt’s second assist.

Later in the 18th minute, the Lions’ Alyssa Fong found Kennedy Cypher for the go-ahead goal to give Vanguard the 2-1 advantage going into half-time.

Leena Thomas tied the match in the 83rd minute with a wide-open left-footed shot where she slipped through the kick but hit the right post and scored.
