Bethel’s North, Payne and IUSB’s Marchand earn NAIA All-American honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo, – The 2020 NAIA Women’s Volleyball All-Americans, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Setter of the Year and Defender of the Year have been announced.

Nada Meawad of Park (Mo.) has been named the 2020 NAIA Player of the Year. Meawad was also the player of the year in 2018. The outside hitter recorded a total of 390 kills on the season for an average of 5.57 kills per set and ranks No. 1 in the nation in kills per set. The senior also posted season-highs of 37 kills, 21 digs, five aces and five blocks. She was also named the 2020 Heart of America Athletic Conference Player and Attacker of the year.

Olivia Galas of Bellevue (Neb.) has been named the 2020 NAIA Setter of the Year. Galas recorded a total of 1,015 assists on the season in 91 sets played for an average of 11.15 assists per set. The setter posted her highest assist average of her career this year. Galas posted a season-high 65 assists against Texas Wesleyan.

Brenna Krommendyk of Dordt (Iowa) has been named the 2020 NAIA Defender of the Year. Krommendyk recorded 106 assisted blocks and 24 solo blocks on the season for a total of 130 total blocks averaging 1.4 blocks per set. The middle blocker set a season and career-high of 11 blocks against Missouri Baptist in the semifinals at the national tournament.

Jon Hegerle of Jamestown (N.D.) has been named the 2020 NAIA Coach of the Year. Hegerle led the Jimmies to a record season with a 30-2 overall record with the only two losses coming from Northwestern (Iowa) and 2020 runner-up Midland (Neb.). The team captured its first No. 1 rank in school history and amassed five No. 1 ranking throughout the regular season. UJ had only advanced as far as the round of 16 in 2017 but the Jimmies pushed past that to play in the semifinals for the first time in program history with Hegerle leading the way.

All of the selections are made by the All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team. There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams.
