Seventeen returning Academic All-Big Ten honorees highlight list

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2019 field hockey preseason honors on Tuesday, highlighted by seven All-Big Ten selections from last season.

Four first-team All-Big Ten students from the 2018 campaign headline this year’s preseason choices – Iowa’s Maddy Murphy, Maryland’s Bodil Keus, Michigan’s Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort and Rutgers’ Gianna Glatz. Preseason honorees who earned second-team All-Big Ten recognition last season include Iowa’s Katie Birch and Sophie Sunderland, along with Ohio State’s Esther Clothet-Alsina.

Indiana’s Ciara Girouard, Iowa’s Birch, Michigan’s Fernandez Lacort and Ohio State’s Clotet-Alsina are three-time selections, while Iowa’s Murphy and Sunderland, Michigan’s Meg Dowthwaite and Rutgers’ Glatz all receive the distinction for the second time.

Seventeen members of the 2019 Big Ten field hockey preseason honors list excelled academically, earning Academic All-Big Ten accolades last year. In addition, Indiana’s Sachi Ananias, Michigan State’s Meredith Ross, Penn State’s Madison Morano, and Rutgers’ Katie Larmour and Glatz were 2019 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.

The 2019 season officially starts this weekend with all nine conference teams in action. Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers begin their seasons on Friday, while Maryland and Michigan State start their campaigns on Saturday.
