Big Ten Hockey Preseason Honors
Minnesota selected as the preseason favorite by coaches

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Minnesota was tabbed the favorite in the 2022-23 Big Ten hockey preseason coaches’ poll, the conference announced on Wednesday. The coaches also selected Preseason All-Big Ten teams, highlighted by a trio of 2021-22 individual award winners.

Notre Dame was selected second in the preseason poll, with Michigan claiming third, Wisconsin earning fourth, Ohio State taking fifth, Penn State placing sixth and Michigan State rounding out the poll in seventh.

The Preseason All-Big Ten teams are comprised of six players on each team: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender. Michigan and Minnesota led the way with four honorees apiece, while Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin each had two.

Ten standouts who earned All-Big Ten accolades last season are featured on the preseason teams, including 2022 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Brock Faber from Minnesota and Co-Freshmen of the Year Luke Hughes from Michigan and Jakub Dobeš from Ohio State. Dobeš was also named the 2022 Big Ten Goaltender of the Year.

Both Hughes and Minnesota’s Matthew Knies were unanimous selections on the preseason first team. The list of honorees also includes a pair of freshmen in Michigan’s Adam Fantilli and Minnesota’s Logan Cooley. Cooley was the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, while Fantilli is a top prospect in the 2023 NHL Draft class.
