Caleb Anthony Wins 400-Meter Hurdles NAIA National Title
Gulf Shores, Ala. – On the final day of the 2018 NAIA National Championships, Caleb Anthony etched his name into the TU record book by winning a national title in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. Anthony is the second Trojan in the history of the program to win the national title in the event.
Anthony had a full day by running in the 110-meter hurdles first followed by the 400-meter hurdles. In his opening run, Anthony posted a time of 14.23 seconds, which placed him third and garnered him NAIA all-American status. Less than an hour after finishing the 110-meter race, Anthony stepped back on the track for the 400-meter race where he dialed up his best run of the season to become the 2018 NAIA Men’s 400-Meter Hurdles National Champion. With a time of 52.31 seconds, Anthony took top honors with a 0.53 second cushion over the national runner-up, Travis Thomas from Oregon Tech. The individual title is the 15th in the Trojans’ history in outdoor track and field and the second in the 400-meter hurdles that first of which came in 1999 and was recorded by Darren Youngstrom. With his two new NAIA all-American performances, Anthony is now a five-time NAIA All-American after just two years of competition.
Also running on Saturday with a time of 9:29.99, Joe Beamish rounded out his TU running career with an 11th-place finish in the men’s steeplechase. It was the third time in four years Beamish competed for TU at the outdoor national championships in the event.
Also competing for the Trojans but not placing were Drew LeFever in the shot put and Jonathan DeHaan in the pole vault.
