CCAC Spring Sport All-Academic Honor Roll Announced; 472 Recognized

CHICAGO — Claiming the most all-academic selections during the fall season, St. Ambrose carried that momentum into the spring where the Fighting Bees’ program again topped all others with 75 all-academic selections. The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference made the announcement for its nine spring sport teams Wednesday morning.

All 15 member schools and associate member Viterbo University were represented with a total of 473 individuals recognized.

St. Ambrose also claimed three individual sport crowns with the most all-academic selections in women’s track & field (22), men’s golf (eight) and women’s golf (seven). The 22 honorees in women’s track & field were also the most of any of the spring sports, while the eight men’s golf honorees tied the top mark with Trinity Christian College.

The only other teams to garner multiple individual sport titles were Cardinal Stritch University and Olivet Nazarene University. Cardinal Stritch led the way with its eight men’s volleyball and seven women’s tennis student-athletes. Olivet Nazarene topped the charts in men’s track & field (13 recipients) and men’s tennis (six).

The other sport crowns were claimed by Robert Morris University Illinois with its 21 baseball all-academic performers and Saint Xavier University with its ten softball selections.

Finishing in second place behind St. Ambrose for the most total honorees was Olivet Nazarene with 68 selections. The rest of the top five included University of St. Francis (53), Saint Xavier (45) and Trinity Christian College (41).

Next in line were Robert Morris Illinois (34), Cardinal Stritch and Roosevelt University (32 each), Indiana South Bend (27) and Judson University (26). The rest of the field was made up of Trinity International University (12), Calumet College of St. Joseph (10), Holy Cross College (nine), Indiana University Northwest (four), Viterbo (three) and Governors State University (one).

Among the nine sports, baseball produced the most honorees with 103 followed by women’s track & field with 94 and softball with 70.

Better than 200 of the 472 individuals named to their respective sport teams were members of the squad one year ago, as well, with 71 of those being three-peat selections. A total of 27 individuals recognized boasted perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point averages.

To be nominated for one of the five teams, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at their respective CCAC school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
