WHAT BROCK SHEAHAN HAS TO SAY ABOUT …

(Last weekend) “It was nice to bounce back after a slow start giving up similar chances Thursday as we had in the Quinnipiac game. I think we played the way we wanted to play – we played pretty fast, moved the puck a lot and generated a ton (of chances). It was nice to see Nick (Kempf) battle through that (St. Lawrence’s first two goals) – two goals on two shots on two high-level chances. He then made another big save before settling in and playing well the rest of the weekend.”

(Goaltender Nick Kempf) “I think Nick has been practicing well and his game is maturing. It’s important that at some point you see the work you are putting in is paying off. It was a good working point. He needs to keep getting better.”

(Play of the forwards) “We have a little more depth there than we have before. One guy who impressed me who hadn’t played this year and didn’t score was (junior right wing) Maddox Fleming. I thought he played maybe the most complete game he has ever played here for us. That was encouraging because he has a lot of talent, and if we can get him to play the way he is capable, he’s going to help our group. It was nice to see (freshman left wing) Cole Brown get rewarded (he had three assists Friday). I think (6-foot-6 grad center) Sutter Muzzatti has been a big help. He plays the game the right way – he’s super smart – and he adds a physical element.”

(Other players who stood out) “(Junior defenseman) Henry Nelson may be the best skater on our team. He has really good offensive instincts for a defenseman in joining the rush. He can hammer the puck. The big thing for him is to be consistent defensively. (Sophomore defenseman) Jimmy Jurcev is a guy who is playing good hockey – he did at the end of last year. He’s 6-foot-5 and can skate. He has good hockey sense. He understands how to find open men; he moves the puck. … I think (junior left wing) Carter Slaggert has been good all year. He’s playing hard, using his skating, he’s definitely been very reliable and he’s generating more offense than he has in the past. … Another guy would be (junior left wing) Brennan Ali. I’ve challenged him to play a true power forward game to match his physical attributes. He’s been a driver for (Cole) Knuble and (Pano) Fimis on that line.”

(Robert Morris) “They are going to present some challenges. They like to play fast. They are high tempo, get a lot of volume to the net. They did that at times last weekend to Michigan, and Michigan is a really talented team. If you are not ready to play them, they are going to score. Coach Schooley does a good job with his teams – he gets the most out of them. They are well-organized, they play fast and try to get guys behind you. It goes back to us – we have to have the puck a lot and make plays in their end.”

NEXT UP: The Irish open their Big Ten season with evening games Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 against the No. 3/3 Michigan Wolverines at the Lefty Smith Arena in the Compton Family Ice Arena. … The Colonials open their Atlantic Hockey Association season with a home-and-home series against Niagara, hosting the Purple Eagles on Friday, Oct. 31 at Clearview Arena in Moon Township, Pa., before traveling to Lewiston, N.Y., to play the Purple Eagles at Dwyer Arena.
