Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 14-20

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 14 through 20. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Brayden Manning, Taylor

Manning opened the IWU series with three-straight, three-hit games and powered No. 11 Taylor to a four-game sweep by hitting .714 with two home runs, one triple and 10 runs batted in. Manning also walked four times and posted a 2.064 OPS in the series.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jared Hurlburt, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Hurlburt tossed a seven-inning shutout at Goshen in a 1-0 MVNU victory. The junior fanned 11 without walking a batter and allowed just three hits in the complete-game victory.

Softball Player of the Week
Abby Harvey, Indiana Wesleyan

Harvey drove in 22 runs for the Wildcats during a 7-1 week for No. 12 IWU. The senior hit .643 with seven extra-base hits in 28 at bats, scoring six times and swiping six bases in addition to her eye-catching RBI total.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Jordyn Ball, Indiana Wesleyan

Ball went 6-0 in the circle for No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan, as the junior hurler earned the win in each of her six outings. Ball posted a 1.69 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over her 29.0 innings of work, piling up 26 strikeouts to just six walks and 28 hits allowed.

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Hanna Reuter, Marian

Reuter posted personal-best performances in the 100-meters and long jump but highlighted her week by helping the Marian 4×400-meter relay to a B-standard time of 3:52.81 for a runner-up finish at the ISU Invite.

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Courtney Butler, Marian

Butler was active for Marian, competing at a pair of meets over the weekend. Butler turned in a pair of top-three performances for the Knights in the hammer, and added a seventh-place finish in the shot put.

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Materna, Marian

Materna helped Marian hit another A-standard in the 4×400-meter relay, this time placing second at the ISU Invite with a time of 3:10.60.

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian

Rios continued his dominant spring season by winning the shot put and taking second in the discus at the Marian Throws Open. The senior posted national standards in each event, hitting the A-standard in the discus.

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Izzy Aigner, Bethel

Aigner topped the field at the Pilot Spring Invitational, shooting rounds of 74 and 75 to take first place in the 30-player field.

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Jonah Kumfer, Bethel

Kumfer played to medalist honors at the Pilot Spring Invitational, posting scores of 71 and 73 to finish the 36-hole tournament at even par and on top of the individual leaderboard.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Isabella Herrera, Huntington

Herrera cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles during Huntington’s 7-0 defeat of Manchester. The doubles match was Herrera’s lone outing of the week.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Pedro Scattolon, Goshen

Scattolon closed his collegiate career for Goshen in style, scoring wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles for the Leafs in a team loss to No. 13 Grace. Scattolon’s singles win was Goshen’s lone point of the contest.
