Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 18-24

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from April 18 through 24. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Miller, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Miller led Mount Vernon Nazarene to a crucial sweep of Grace and into a two-game lead atop the standings by hitting .500 with three homers and eight runs batted in during the series. Miller added two doubles, scored seven times and slugged 1.111 over the four games.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Craig Nixon, Marian
Nixon hurled a pair of complete games for Marian, taking the win on the bump in each outing. Nixon tallied 12 total innings in wins over Grace and Saint Francis, picking up 10 strikeouts and allowing only three earned runs.

Softball Player of the Week
Shelbie Stotts, Marian
Stotts was unstoppable in No. 17 Marian’s 8-0 week, hitting .586 with six home runs, three doubles, 16 runs scored and 16 runs batted in. In the midst of that onslaught, Stotts broke MU’s single-season home runs mark.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Sydney Wilson, Marian
Wilson took the win in each of her five appearances in the circle, going 5-0 with a 2.33 earned-run average over 30 innings of work. The lefty went the distance in three of her four starts and earned another win in her lone relief outing of the week.

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Giorgia Mameli, Marian
Mameli topped the field in the 100, 200, 4×100-relay and 4×400-relay to lead Marian at the Little State Championships. The freshman hit a trio of NAIA A-standards and set two new program records at the meet.

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak had another busy day for the Knights, winning the high jump and long jump competitions at the Little State Championships. Oleksak ran a leg of the winning 4×100-relay for MU and hit four national qualifying marks at the meet.

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian
Rios provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals in the shot put but highlighted the weekend by winning the Little State Championship in the discus with a throw of 53.96 meters to break MU’s program record and automatically qualify for Nationals.

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Dylan Felger, Huntington
Felger scored wins in the 400-hurdles and 200 for Huntington at the Jesse Owens Track Classic. Felger automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals in each event and set HU records in each. Felger’s time of 51.05 in the 400-hurdles is tops in the NAIA this spring.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Ashlee Fisk, Indiana Wesleyan
Fisk went 2-0 in singles play this week for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Wildcats to three more victories.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Leonardo Sprovieri, Indiana Wesleyan
Sprovieri helped No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan to a trio of wins in as many matches, going 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles contests for the Wildcats.

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Jessica Shurety, Bethel
Shurety claimed top honors at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout after winning in a playoff. The Bethel senior shot a single-round of 77 to take the top spot on the leaderboard.

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Jay Williams, Marian
Marian’s Williams played to medalist honors at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout, topping the field of 49 golfers with a single-round tally of 69 on the 6,983-yard course.
