Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 21-27

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 21 through 27. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Eli Riley, Saint Francis

Riley led Saint Francis to a 5-0 week by hitting .529 with a .941 slugging percentage in 17 at bats. The senior belted four doubles and one home run, while driving in 10 Cougars and swiping five bags without being caught.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jarin Bertke, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Bertke tossed a seven-inning complete game against Huntington in a 14-1 MVNU victory. The senior fanned nine Foresters in the game, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and no walks.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Abby Robakowski, Saint Francis

Robakowski had the power swing working for Saint Francis, cracking five home runs in eight games. The sophomore finished the week hitting .500 with seven extra-base hits, 10 runs scored and 10 runs batted in.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian

Stunkel posted a 1.17 earned-run average and a 0.78 WHIP over 18 innings of work for No. 14 Marian on her way to a 3-0 record for the week. In addition to firing two complete games, Stunkel fanned 16 batters and yielded just 10 hits and four walks.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kylie Sauder, Grace

Sauder posted a new Grace record with a time of 4:27.90 in the 1,500-meters. Sauder took fourth at the Drake Relays with that time and surpassed the NAIA A-standard in the event.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Gabrielle Zeilenga, Bethel

Zeilenga excelled at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend, winning the long jump and taking third in the pole vault. In addition to her strong finishes, Zeilenga hit the A-standard in the long jump and the B-standard in the pole vault.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Materna, Marian

Materna scored another CL Athlete-of-the-Week nod by posting runner-up finishes and A-standard marks for Marian in the 400-meters and 4×400-meter relay. Materna tied his own MU record in the 400 with a time of 47.26.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Tyler Shipley, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Shipley cleared 4.91 meters in the pole vault at the Walsh Tune Up. The junior’s mark was good for second place at the meet and automatically qualified Shipley for NAIA Nationals.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Sage Parsetich, Indiana Wesleyan

Parsetich topped a field of 25 players at the Sagamore Shootout, carding scores of 75 and 79 to win medalist honors.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Weston Ogden, Marian

Odgen scored the individual title at the Sagamore Shootout, posting scores of 78 and 69 at the two-round event.
