Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 22-28

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of April 22 through 28. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Duncan Patterson, Spring Arbor

Patterson tossed a pair of complete-game wins on the bump for SAU, allowing one earned run over 14 innings against Bethel and Marian. Patterson went 2-0 with 13 strikeouts, to go with a 0.50 ERA and 0.57 WHIP.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Brady West, Indiana Wesleyan

West homered in each of IWU’s four games, finishing with four home runs and eight runs batted in. West also ripped two doubles and closed the week with a .563 batting average and 1.438 slugging percentage.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Breena Smith, Marian

Smith kept on rolling for No. 2 Marian, going 4-0 with a 0.30 earned-run average over 22 innings of dominance in the circle. Smith piled up 28 strikeouts, while walking just one batter and allowing only 11 hits in the four outings.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Miranda Wehrle, Indiana Wesleyan

Wehrle was at it again for No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan, driving in 15 runs for the Wildcat offense and homering three times with three doubles. Wehrle posted a .464 average to go with an .893 slugging percentage and scored eight times in eight games.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Nicole Jung, Taylor

Jung claimed the Crossroads League Championship by three shots, highlighting the event with a round-two score of 72. Jung’s performance helped No. 13 TU cruise to a 30-stroke team championship.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Mitchell Soviak, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Soviak turned in throw of 19.33 meters in the shot put at the Jesse Owens Classic to lead all affiliated competitors at the event that included Ohio State and Central Michigan.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Caleb Anthony, Taylor

Anthony raced to a time of 14.58 and an NAIA A standard in the 110-meter hurdles and posted a B mark of 54.47 in the 400-meter hurdles to lead Taylor at the Gina Relays. Anthony finished top-three in each event.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Clista Hellwarth, Saint Francis

Hellwarth picked up a third-straight win in the javelin, hitting 35.92 meters to top the field at the Lancer Invite.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Rachel Blagg, Taylor

Blagg helped Taylor post the NAIA A mark with a time of 9:18.22 in the 4×800-meter relay, while also clocking a time of 4:40.39 in the 1,500-meters.
