Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 7-13

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Luke Picchiotti, Taylor

Picchiotti reached base at a .643 clip in No. 10 Taylor’s series win over Goshen, batting .545 with three walks. The senior also tripled, doubled and drove in five runs for the Trojans without striking out.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Brock Buckley, Indiana Wesleyan

Buckley fired 11 shutout innings at Mount Vernon Nazarene in an eventual 1-0 loss in 13 innings. The junior righty fanned 14 Cougars and yielded just three hits and one walk in his 11 dominant innings of work.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Skylar Zimmerman, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Zimmerman made the most of an eight-game slate for MVNU on the week, hitting .357 with three home runs, one double and 13 runs batted in. The freshman outfielder also scored nine times and had three multi-hit performances.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian

Stunkel went 3-0 in the circle for No. 14 Marian, piling up 24 strikeouts and allowing just one earned run over 17 innings of work. In addition to her three wins, Stunkel posted a 0.41 earned-run average and a 0.88 WHIP.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Katie Woods, Marian

Woods posted the best time in the NAIA this season in the 800-meters and the third-fastest time in the NAIA in the 1,500-meters. Woods broke the MU records in each event, crossing in 2:11.23 in the 800 and 4:26.76 in the 1,500.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Kiana Siefert, Taylor

Siefert helped TU to a second-place team finish at the Little State Championships by winning the triple jump, placing second in the long jump and taking fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. Siefert posted a winning mark of 11.20 meters in the triple jump.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jonathan Farinha, Huntington

Farinha took home three event wins at the Little State Championships for Huntington, topping the field in the 100-meters, 200-meters and 4×400-meter relay. Farinha helped HU automatically qualify for Nationals and set a new school record with a time of 3:12.87 in the 4×400.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian

Rios won all three of his events at the Fast Break Invite, topping the field in the shot put, discus and hammer. Rios posted A-standard results in the shot and discus and a B-standard in the hammer.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Sage Parsetich, Indiana Wesleyan

Parsetich led No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan at the Music City Invitational with rounds of 66, 78 and 73 to finish fifth-of-97 at the event.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Sam Dykema, Indiana Wesleyan

Dykema led No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan at the Roadrunner Classic, firing rounds of 71, 72 and 74 to finish fourth overall out of 63 golfers.
