Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | August 11-17

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from August 11 through 17. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ellie Frey, Taylor
Frey made an immediate impact in her debut with RV Taylor, as the Grand Canyon transfer hammered home 24 kills in a five-set win over Keiser to start the season. Frey went on to average 4.1 kills per set on a .277 percentage to help the Trojans to a 4-0 start.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Liz Schmidt, Grace
Schmidt reached double figures in digs in each of her four matches, helping RV Grace to a 3-1 start. Schmidt highlighted her week with a 30-dig performance in GC’s four-set win over Mount Mercy and finished with 5.3 digs per set in the four outings.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Carsyn Witt, Grace
Witt powered RV Grace to a 3-1 start with 142 assists for the Lancers. The freshman posted a trio of double-doubles and flirted with a triple-double in a 35-assist, 18-dig, seven-kill effort against Olivet Nazarene.
