Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | August 12-18

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from August 12 through 18. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Alisha Voss, Grace

Voss powered Grace to upset wins over No. 6 Midland and No. 16 IU Kokomo, as well as a sweep of Wilberforce. Voss posted 3.8 kills per set for the Lancers on a crisp hitting percentage of .480, while adding 1.5 blocks per set.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marissa Mullins, Indiana Wesleyan

Mullins was a force at the net for No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan, as the junior middle posted 12 total blocks in matches against No. 6 Midland and No. 16 IU Kokomo. Mullins ended the two matches with 14 kills, 12 blocks, five aces and four digs.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Riley Owens, Grace

Owens paced the attack for Grace as it scored wins over Wilberforce, No. 6 Midland and No. 16 IU Kokomo. The senior setter averaged 6.3 assists and 2.1 digs per set for the Lancers during their 3-0 week.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Marian Corro Celma, Marian
Corro Celma’s successful penalty kick in the 72nd minute proved to be the eventual game-winner for No. 19 Marian in its 4-2 win over Saint Ambrose.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Makiah McCain, Goshen
McCain played well in the net to help Goshen battle No. 21 Ottawa-Arizona to a 1-0 decision. McCain played all 90 minutes in goal, allowing just the one score and picking up three saves.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Rood Schnaider, Spring Arbor
Schnaider picked up six points with a role in four goals for SAU during its 11-0 season-opening win over Rochester Christian. Schnaider had two goals and two assists in the rout.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Dan Pellegrine, Huntington
Pellegrine posted a shutout in goal to help Huntington take a 4-0 win over Lourdes in the Foresters’ season-opener. Pellegrine picked up three saves in the clean sheet.
