Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | August 19-25

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of August 19 through 25. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Nicole Winkler, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Winkler led MVNU’s offense to a 4-0 mark over the weekend by slamming 3.5 kills per set at a blistering .429 clip and added 30 digs and one service ace.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Julia Pomerenke, Taylor

Pomerenke had a big week at the net, collecting 17 blocks during a 3-1 weekend for Taylor, while adding 31 kills on a .310 percentage.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Alexa Hill, Grace

Hill amassed 126 assists over 11 sets played to pace Grace on the weekend. Along with 11.5 helpers per set, Hill added 1.7 digs.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Jose Barquin, Bethel

Barquin sparked BU’s 5-0 shutout of Cornerstone with one goal, one assist, seven total shots and five attempts on frame.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Gabe Greenfield, Huntington

Greenfield worked half of Huntington’s 2-0 shutout victory over Siena Heights, before picking up seven saves in a 1-1 draw against No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett.

 

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Ali Clodgo, Taylor

Clodgo struck for a trio of goals in TU’s two victories, connecting twice in a 4-0 blanking at Asbury and adding another in a 4-1 win at Lourdes.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Alexis Patenaude, Marian

Patenaude made three saves and posted a shutout in her collegiate debut for RV Marian, anchoring the Knights’ defense in a 4-0 win over Holy Cross.
