JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from August 25 through 31. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ellie Frey, Taylor
Frey led RV Taylor to a 4-0 week with wins over No. 16 Missouri Baptist and RV Indiana Tech. The junior posted 5.0 kills, 3.3 digs, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 aces per set, while hitting at a .318 clip. Frey went for 30 kills in a five-set win over Pikeville and had 26 in the upset of MBU.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Layla Meyer, Huntington
Meyer racked up 109 digs over five matches, leading Huntington to four victories with 6.1 digs per set in those outings. The senior had three matches with at least 20 digs and reached the 30-dig mark in a four-set win over Saint Francis (IL).
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Reagan Nuss, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Nuss averaged 9.6 assists, 2.6 digs, 0.4 blocks and 0.4 kills per set to lift No. 14 MVNU to a 4-1 week. The senior had two double-doubles and highlighted her week with a 41-assist, 13-dig, six-block, three-kill gem in the Cougars’ five-set win over Campbellsville.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Cassidy Felger, Grace
Felger stayed active for Grace, this time netting two goals in each of the Lancers’ victories on the week. The junior midfielder scored twice in a 4-0 win over Indiana Tech and went for two goals and one assist in a 4-0 upset of No. 4 Columbia.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Zoe Mueller, Grace
Mueller played all 180 minutes on the week, helping Grace to a pair of 4-0 shutout wins over Indiana Tech and No. 4 Columbia. The senior defender also aided the Lancer offense, assisting on a goal in the upset win over Columbia.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Samuel Wehaus, Marian
Wehaus tallied three goals, one assist and seven points for Marian in wins over Georgetown and Northwestern Ohio. The sophomore midfielder opened with two scores and one assist in a 6-0 rout of Georgetown, before adding one goal in the 3-2 win against UNOH.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jack Cristini, Spring Arbor
Cristini posted two more shutouts in the goal for Spring Arbor in wins over Saint Francis (IL) and Judson. The senior keeper logged eight total saves, with six coming in the 1-0 blanking of Judson.
