Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | August 29-September 4

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Tuesday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from August 29 through September 4. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Skyler Van Note, Marian

Van Note did it all for the third-ranked Knights during a 4-0 week, averaging 3.5 kills, 2.9 digs and 0.7 blocks per set. The All-American had at least 12 kills and eight digs in all four matches, hit .396 on the week and turned in a pair of double-double performances.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Averi Lanman, Marian

Lanman highlighted a five-set win over RV Vanguard for No. 3 Marian by recording 12 blocks and went on to log 22 total blocks for the Knights. In the four wins, Lanman averaged 1.7 blocks per set and added 1.1 kills per set.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Paige Brenner, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Brenner helped guide No. 25 Mount Vernon Nazarene to a 5-0 week with 162 assists, 32 digs and 17 kills. The senior averaged 10.1 assists, 2.0 digs and 1.1 kills per set for the Cougars and added a .350 hitting percentage.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Mallory Krueger, Indiana Wesleyan
Krueger led No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan past No. 15 Columbia with a pair of goals in the 3-0 victory for IWU and added a third goal in a 3-0 win over Judson to finish the week with three goals and six points.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hope Stacker, Indiana Wesleyan
Stacker posted a pair of shutouts in goal for No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan, posting a total of eight saves in 3-0 wins over No. 15 Columbia and Judson.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Daniel Eleuterio, Saint Francis
Eleuterio unleashed three goals and two assists to fuel a pair of lopsided shutout victories on the pitch for Saint Francis. The junior midfielder struck for three goals in a two-minute stretch of USF’s 5-0 win over Calumet and added two assists in an 11-0 win against Carlow.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Aaron Carr, Indiana Wesleyan
Carr did not allow a goal to No. 4 Columbia or No. 7 Indiana Tech, helping Indiana Wesleyan battle to scoreless draws in each contest. Carr tallied eight total saves, with five coming to preserve the tie with Indiana Tech.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Shelby Christman, Huntington
Christman teamed with Carmen Trier to give Huntington the fastest of 15 pairs at the Manchester Hokum Karem. Christman posted a time of 17:18 for her three-mile stretch of the race.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
France Antezana, Indiana Wesleyan
Antezana went 6-0 with three wins at No. 1 singles and three more at No. 1 doubles for No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan, leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 week.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Javier Gallego, Grace
Gallego scored wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for Grace in its upset of No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan and closed the week with a 2-0 mark in singles play and a 1-0 mark in double action for the Lancers.
