Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | December 1-7
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from December 1 through 7. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaycie Warfel, Taylor
Warfel continued scoring at a high clip for unbeaten Taylor, netting 18 against Bethel and 27 against Goshen. The freshman averaged 22.5 points per game, along with 3.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per outing.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Celina Blount, Taylor
Blount filled the box score once again for RV Taylor in wins over Bethel and Goshen. The sophomore post averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per contest, while also shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Austin Cripe, Bethel
Cripe averaged 25.5 points per game for No. 11 Bethel in outings against Taylor and Saint Francis. The junior guard shot 57.6 percent from the floor and went nine-of-14 from beyond the arc for a blistering 64.3 percent in the two contests.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Nathan Baker, Taylor
Baker helped Taylor to a trio of wins on the week, going for 10.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.3 assists and 0.7 blocks per outing. The freshman was a menace on the defensive end, grabbing two steals in an upset win at No. 11 Bethel and collecting nine steals on the week.
Women’s Bowler of the Week
Ella Steinke, Spring Arbor
Steinke helped Spring Arbor sweep the first two Crossroads League Tournaments, posting a first-place scoring average of 191.3 in the first and then averaging 196.0 in the second.
Men’s Bowler of the Week
Michael Lichtenberg, Huntington
Lichtenberg scored the individual title in the second Crossroads League Tournament, rolling up an average of 239.7 with a three-game score of 719.
