Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | December 9-15

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from December 9 through 15. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Peyton Murphy, Grace
Murphy had a big game for Grace in its 79-61 win over Cleary, posting 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting and adding five rebounds, five assists, 10 steals and two blocks.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Peyton Murphy Grace
Murphy tied the Grace single-game record with 10 steals in GC’s 79-61 win over Cleary. The senior forward also scored 26 points in the contest and added five rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Scott, Grace
Scott poured in a career-high 35 points on 15-of-18 shooting to lift No. 16 Grace past IU-East by a 93-82 margin. Along with shooting 83.3 percent from the field, Scott added eight rebounds, three assists and one block.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Trent Koning, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Koning helped Mount Vernon Nazarene to a pair of victories in California with 4.0 steals per outing. Koning also played well on the offensive end, posting 22.0 points and 4.0 assists per victory.
Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Katie Woods, Marian
Woods set a new Marian program record by 54 seconds with a time of 17:28.24 in the 5,000-meters. Woods topped the field at the IU Early Bird and hit the NAIA B standard in the event.
Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Delaney Teachnor, Marian
Teachnor took fifth in the pole vault at the IU Early Bird, clearing a height of 3.65 meters to provisionally qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jeremiah Brown, Marian
Brown provisionally qualified for NAIA Indoor Nationals in the 60-meters with a runner-up time of 6.78 seconds for Marian at the IU Early Bird.
Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Gunner Kovach, Marian
Kovach took second place out of 10 athletes in the high jump at the Indiana University Early Bird. The sophomore cleared a height of 2.00 meters.
