Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 5-11

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from February 5 through 11. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Lilli Frasure, Indiana Wesleyan
Frasure secured a second-straight league honor by helping No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of victories. Frasure scored 23 points in each game and also averaged 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals, while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Javan Buchanan, Indiana Wesleyan
Buchanan led No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan to wins over Spring Arbor and Saint Francis with 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per victory. The sophomore forward shot 56.3 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from downtown.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Annika Alderfer Fisher, Goshen
Alderfer Fisher posted two school records and two A-standards for Goshen at the GVSU Invite. The senior ran times of 4:59.43 in the mile and 12:12.33 in the distance-medley relay for the Maple Leafs.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Gina Butz, Marian
Butz finished second overall and hit the A-standard with a mark of 1.68 meters in the high jump for Marian at its home invite.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Mathew Keitany, Goshen
Keitany hit a pair of A-standards for Goshen and set two new school records at the Grand Valley State Invite. The junior crossed in 4:12.02 in the mile and helped GC to a 10:02.46 in the distance-medley relay.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Markevious Keys, Marian
Keys provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals in the weight throw with a toss of 17.01 meters at his home invite. The performance was good for third-of-13 in the event.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Abigail Dwyer, Marian

Dwyer led Marian at the Hoosier Classic by rolling up 1,232 pins over six games to help the Knights finish 19th-of-64 teams.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Nolan Blessing, Marian
Blessing racked up 1,446 total pins to win the individual title at the Hoosier Classic. Blessing’s efforts helped Marian finish sixth in the team standings.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Dawson Estep, Marian
Estep had a big opening weekend for Marian in a series win over IUPUC. Estep hit .533 with two extra-base hits and scored eight times to help the Knights to three wins in the four-game set.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Seth Hogg, Marian
Hogg tossed six no-hit frames for Marian in a 12-0 win over IUPUC, helping the Knights to a combined no-hitter in his first collegiate start. The freshman also fanned nine and issued just two walks while taking the win.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Bianca Diamond, Goshen
Diamond fueled Goshen to a doubleheader sweep of Albion by hitting .500 in the two games with four hits, four runs batted in, two runs scored and two stolen bases without being caught.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Alisyn Catenacci, Goshen
Catenacci fired five innings for Goshen in a 6-1 win at Albion. The Goshen ace allowed just one run and struck out four, while recording the win in the circle.
