Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 22-28

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from January 22 through 28. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Alana Nelson, Spring Arbor
Nelson led RV Spring Arbor to a 73-56 win over MVNU with 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the field. Nelson also grabbed eight rebounds and picked up one block in the victory.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Javan Buchanan, Indiana Wesleyan
Buchanan powered No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan to a 93-91 overtime win at Huntington with 26 points, 15 rebounds and one block. The sophomore forward sank nine-of-17 shots and went eight-of-nine from the free throw line.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Claire Lange, Marian
Lange hit a pair of NAIA A standards at the IUPUI Invitational, placing second in the 600 and fourth in the 4×400-relay. The sophomore’s time of 1:34.76 in the 600 ranks her tops in the Crossroads League this season.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Arriana Benjamin, Marian
Benjamin turned in runner-up finishes in the weight throw and shot put for Marian at the IUPUI Invitational. Benjamin’s marks were both good enough to automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Camden Khon, Spring Arbor
Khon scored wins for Spring Arbor in the mile and distance-medley relay at the SVSU Invitational. The freshman automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals in each event, while helping SAU break a school record with the second-best NAIA time in the DMR this year.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian
Rios scored two top-five finishes for Marian at the IUPUI Invitational. Rios hit NAIA A standards in the shot put and weight throw with marks of 16.03 meters and 18.05 meters.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Kassidy Alexander, Spring Arbor
Alexander led Spring Arbor to a first-place team finish at the third Crossroads League Meet of the season. Alexander topped the field with 782 pins, posting a game-high of 212.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Cody Hall, Spring Arbor
Hall knocked down 826 pins over four games, with a game-high of 234 to top the field at the third Crossroads League Meet of the season. Hall’s efforts also led Spring Arbor to the team title.
