Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 5-11

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from January 5 through 11. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Renna Schwieterman, Saint Francis
Schwieterman led No. 7 Saint Francis to wins over RV Taylor and No. Marian with 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per victory. The junior forward had at least 15 points and eight boards in each contest.

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Haven Chapman, Spring Arbor
Chapman was active on the defensive end for Spring Arbor in wins over Bethel and Goshen, registering 12 defensive rebounds, six steals and two blocks. For the week, the freshman averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing.

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Pete Combs, Taylor
Combs averaged 21.0 points per game on 72.0-percent shooting from the field to help lift RV Taylor to road wins over Saint Francis and RV Huntington. The junior post also averaged 3.5 assists per game for the Trojan offense.

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Jameir Jefferson, Bethel
Jefferson led No. 7 Bethel to wins against Spring Arbor and Mount Vernon Nazarene with 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. Jefferson had multiple steals in each game and posted a double-double in BU’s win over MVNU.
