Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | March 4-10
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from March 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Elijah Malone, Grace
Malone led No.1 Grace past No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship, scoring 25 points on seven-of-eight shooting in 27 minutes of work. Malone also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kinnidy Garrard, Marian
Garrard posted a double-double for No. 1 Marian in its Crossroads League Tournament Championship win over No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan. Garrard went for 21 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals, while shooting 70.0 percent from the field.
Baseball Player of the Week
Ayden Lichtensteiger, Saint Francis
Lichstensteiger had five hits in seven at bats for Saint Francis during a doubleheader split with Huntington. The sophomore also homered once, drove in six runs and scored twice, while stealing one base.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Drue Young, Indiana Wesleyan
Young hurled a complete-game shutout in No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan’s 7-0 victory over Marian. Young fanned nine in his nine innings, allowed just four hits and issued only one walk.
Softball Player of the Week
Kaylee Larkin, Taylor
Larkin kept a hot bat for Taylor by hitting .545 with three home runs over four games, which included a sweep of RV IU Southeast. The sophomore slugged 1.364 on the week, drove in seven runs and scored three times.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Jeri Ellis, Grace
Ellis picked up four wins in the circle for the Lancers and allowed just two earned runs in 24 innings of work. Along with going 4-0, Ellis posted a 0.58 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP in the four outings.
Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Marc Soriano, Marian
Soriano went 2-1 on the week for No. 25 Marian in singles play and added a win at No. 2 doubles. During an upset of No. 10 Coastal Georgia, Soriano won 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 in singles and 6-2 in doubles play.
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Moorea McNalley, Spring Arbor
McNalley sparked Spring Arbor’s 5-0 week by going 4-1 at No. 1 singles and 5-0 at No. 1 doubles in the Cougar lineup.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Augie Mann, Marian
Mann shot successive rounds of 74, 72, 69 to lead No. 21 Marian at the Keiser Kup. Mann finished 11th on the individual leaderboard.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Mackendzie Dresbaugh, Marian
Dresbaugh led No. 10 Marian at the Saddlebrook Kickoff, shooting scores of 78, 78, 75 to win the individual title.
