Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | May 7-13

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of May 7 through May 13. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Burleton, Marian

Burleton fired eight dominant frames in the championship game of the Crossroads League Tournament, fanning nine Huntington batters in the 9-1 win for MU.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Leo Lopez, Marian

Lopez highlighted MU’s Crossroads League Tournament Championship by hitting .429 with two runs and three RBI in a win over Taylor and two games against Huntington.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Erik Escobedo, Bethel

Escobedo helped Bethel to the NCCAA National Championship by winning the hammer and scoring top-three finishes in the discus and shot put.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Carl Jones Jr., Mount Vernon Nazarene

Jones Jr. won the 100-meter dash once again, this time crossing in 10.77 seconds for the best time of the Baldwin-Wallace Invite.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Katrina Tovar, Spring Arbor

Tovar scored a win in the triple jump, took third in the pole vault and ended sixth in the long jump to pace SAU at the Hillsdale Lance Chance Classic.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Alex Berends, Taylor

Berends set a new Taylor record and recorded the second-best steeplechase time of the year in the NAIA, posting a mark of 10:46.38 at the Dr. Keeler Invite.
