Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 10-16

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 10 through 16. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Marissa Mullins, Indiana Wesleyan

Mullins powered No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan to sweeps of RV Spring Arbor and No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene in the CL Tournament, helping the Wildcats to a third-straight title with 4.2 kills per set at a .412 percentage.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Cadee Notter, Indiana Wesleyan

Notter held down the back row for No. 8 IWU with 6.5 digs per set for the Wildcats in the last two matches of the Crossroads League Tournament. In the championship match sweep of No. 12 Mount Veron Nazarene, Potter collected 23 digs in three sets.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter led No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan to a third-straight CL Tournament Championship with 13.5 assists per outing. In addition to posting back-to-back matches with at least 40 helpers, Porter added 12.0 digs per contest.

 

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Rosalie Gefrorer, Grace

Gefrorer’s goal late in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship match was the equalizer for No. 14 Grace in a 1-1 tie with No. 2 Marian. The junior then converted her shootout attempt to help the Lancers secure the program’s first-ever CL Tournament Championship.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ivy Cline, Grace

Cline and the No. 14 Lancers helped limit second-ranked Marian to just one goal through 110 minutes of work in the CL Tournament Championship, as the match went into a shootout. Cline then came up with a save in the shootout to help GC win the tourney title.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Julian Vargas Talamantes, Bethel

Vargas Talamantes provided the lone score of the night in a 1-0 win for No. 4 Bethel over No. 18 Grace in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. In addition to the goal, the forward unleashed five shots, with three being on frame.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Maarten Schouten, Bethel

Schouten needed just one save as the Pilot defense held No. 18 Grace scoreless in a 1-0 BU win for the CL Tournament Championship.

 

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Maddy Poynter, Grace

Poynter poured in 34 points in each of Grace’s victories, including the Lancers’ historic 172-point outburst against Ohio Christian. In addition to averaging 34.0 points per game, Poynter shot 54.3 percent from the floor and dished out 7.5 points per game.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Haven Chapman, Spring Arbor

Chapman picked up 10 steals, 13 rebounds and two blocks for Spring Arbor in wins over Rochester Christian and St. Mary-Woods. The freshman had 11 rebounds and six steals against Rochester Christian and closed the week with 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaden Johnson, Huntington

Johnson kept the hot hand, netting 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field in an 88-80 win for RV Huntington over Cornerstone. The junior guard also grabbed 11 rebounds, three assists and one block in the win.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Marcus Northern, Goshen

Northern helped Goshen to a pair of wins, posting five steals in each contest. Along with his 10 steals combined against IU-Columbus and Aquinas, Northern added 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Jessica Spidell, Goshen

Spidell bowled a 928 over five games for Goshen at the Purdue Classic, posting an average score of 185.6 and finishing in second place at the event.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Nash Morgan, Goshen

Morgan tallied 843 pins for a 168.6 scoring average at the Purdue Classic. The Goshen freshman finished in 52nd place at the event.
