Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 11-17

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 11 through 17. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan
Joldersma overpowered the defenses of No. 24 Grace and No. 22 Marian with 6.3 kills per set. In a CL Tournament Semifinal sweep of the Lancers, Joldersma had 17 kills and just one error, before going for 27 kills in 80 swings to lead IWU past MU in a four-set title match.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marissa Mullins, Indiana Wesleyan
The stead presence of Mullins at the net for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan helped power the Wildcats to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. In wins over No. 24 Grace and No. 22 Marian, Mullins tallied eight total blocks, netting 1.1 blocks per set.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter continued orchestrating the offense for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan, powering the Wildcats to the CL Tournament Championship. The junior setter posted 13.7 assists, 2.7 digs and 0.6 blocks per set and had 58 assists, 12 digs and two blocks in the title match.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Kaylee Beekel, Spring Arbor
Beekel recorded her first career hat trick to lead No. 11 Spring Arbor to a 4-3 win over No. 9 Marian in a thrilling Crossroads League Tournament Championship match. Beekel scored on all three of her shot attempts in the contest.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Jack Voight, Spring Arbor
Voight highlighted SAU’s 4-1 win over RV Marian to secure the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Voight scored twice, finding the back of the net on each of his shot attempts in the match.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jack Cristini, Spring Arbor
Cristini made five saves in goal for sixth-seeded Spring Arbor, allowing just one goal in SAU’s 4-1 win over RV Marian in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship.

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Teresa Maggio, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Maggio set a single-game scoring record for Mount Vernon Nazarene with 41 points on 16-of-21 shooting in MVNU’s 84-49 win over Lawrence Tech. Maggio also grabbed six rebounds, six steals, five assists and two blocks in the record-setting performance.

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Peyton Murphy, Grace
Murphy was at it once again for the Lancers, doing a little of everything with 22.0 points, 16.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 39.0 minutes per game in wins over Cornerstone and Ohio Christian.

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Caedmon Bontrager, Indiana Wesleyan
Bontrager led No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan to a 118-86 win over Trinity Christian with 32 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 27 minutes of work. The sophomore forward sank 14-of-16 field goal attempts in the win.

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Isaiah Malone, Saint Francis
Malone led Saint Francis past IUSB and No. 25 Indiana Tech with 8.0 defensive rebounds and 3.0 blocks per victory. In addition, Malone averaged 17.0 points per game on 68.4-percent shooting for the Cougars.

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Kayla Tafanelli, Spring Arbor
Tafanelli topped the field at the Bowling Green State Falcon Classic, knocking down 817 pins over four games. Tafanelli posted a high-game of 231 and led Spring Arbor to the title at the 13-team event.

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Brendan Riley, Goshen
Riley led Goshen at the BGSU Falcon Classic, topping all Crossroads League competitors at the event and placing third overall with a total of 981 pins.
