Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 17-23
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 17 through 23. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaycie Warfel, Taylor
Warfel powered Taylor past Grace and No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Trojans remain unbeaten with 33.5 points per outing in the two wins. Warfel poured in 40 of TU’s 85 points against Grace, before adding 27 points on 50.0-percent shooting in the upset over IWU.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Celina Blount, Taylor
Blount averaged 14.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, to go along with 9.0 points to help Taylor to a 2-0 start in league play. Blount had 13 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in TU’s 66-61 upset of No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Raasch, Grace
Raasch was large for No. 4 Grace in wins over Taylor and Saint Francis, netting 26.0 points per game while shooting 76.0 percent. The junior forward made Lancer history by going 13-for-13 from the floor for 34 points against TU.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Dante Favor, Spring Arbor
Favor led Spring Arbor to a 72-65 win over RV Huntington with four blocks and a steal on the defensive end. Then against Marian, Favors poured in 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cougars.
Women’s Bowler of the Week
Kayla Tafanelli, Spring Arbor
Tafanelli won the Bowling Green State Classic with 782 pins in three games, winning the title by over 100 pins. The junior rolled a 300 for SAU’s first-ever perfect game and also helped the Cougars secure the team crown.
Men’s Bowler of the Week
Cody Hall, Spring Arbor
Hall finished runner up at the Bowling Green State Classic with 732 pins in three games. The senior averaged 244 pins per game and helped Spring Arbor take home the team title.
