Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 3-9

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 3 through 9. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Shae Williams, Indiana Wesleyan

Williams was nearly unstoppable for No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan in its sweeps of Goshen and Grace, hitting .634 with 28 kills in her six sets. The freshman had 14 kills in 16 swings against Goshen, before adding 14 more with just two errors against Grace.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Emma Lyons, Marian

Lyons averaged 6.6 digs per set to help RV Marian to a pair of four-set wins over Grace and RV Huntington. The senior libero had 29 digs against Grace and 24 against Huntington to help the Knights advance to the second round of the CL Tournament.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Reagan Nuss, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Nuss led No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene to sweeps of Saint Francis and Bethel with 11.2 assists, 3.7 digs, 1.2 blocks, 0.5 aces and 0.3 blocks per match. In addition to clearing 30 assists in each match, Nuss posted a double-double against Bethel and hit .700 on the week.

 

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Parmer, Marian

Parmer netted the game-winner for No. 2 Marian in a 2-0 win over USF, before registering an assist in a 1-0 win over No. 21 SAU. Parmer helped the Knights advance to the CL Tournament Championship with three total points in the first two rounds.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ivy Cline, Grace

Cline recorded eight total saves for No. 16 Grace in its CL Tournament wins over Bethel and No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan. The sophomore goalie did not allow a score in either contest, helping GC to 1-0 wins with three saves against BU and five against IWU.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Juan Garcia, Grace

Garcia led No. 20 Grace past RV Marian and No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan into the CL Tournament with three total points in the pair of 1-0 victories. Garcia assisted GC’s lone strike against MU, before sending the Lancers to the CLT Championship with the lone goal against IWU.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Kenn, Grace

Kenn posted two clean sheets for No. 20 Grace in the Crossroads League Tournament, blanking RV Marian and No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan in a pair of 1-0 Lancer victories. Kenn recorded five total stops in the two wins.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jaynie Halterman, Taylor

Halterman led No. 1 Taylor to its 13th-straight Crossroads League Championship, claiming her second league title in as many years. The sophomore cleared the field by over a full minute and broke her own course record with a time of 20:17.6.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Camden Khon, Spring Arbor

Khon finished first at the Crossroads League Championships, setting a new course record with a time of 24:14. The SAU junior helped the 18th-ranked Cougars take third in the men’s race.

 

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaycie Warfel, Taylor

Warfel continued her early season scoring barrage for Taylor, pouring in 38 points in a 111-90 win over RV Olivet Nazarene and adding 37 in a blowout of IU-Columbus. The freshman averaged 37.5 points on 58.5 percent shooting and drilled seven-of-10 triples.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Celina Blount, Taylor

Blount posted back-to-back double-doubles for Taylor to help the Trojans to comfortable wins over RV Olivet Nazarene and IU-Columbus. Blount netted 14.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game, while also shooting 55.6 percent from the floor in the two wins.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaden Johnson, Huntington

Johnson poured in a career-high 25 points to lead Huntington past No. 12 Pikeville and added a pair of double-doubles in HU’s two victories. The senior forward averaged 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals, while shooting 75.0 percent from the field.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Caedmon Bontrager, Indiana Wesleyan

Bontrager tallied seven blocks, two steals and 18 rebounds for No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan in a pair of wins. Against Florida Memorial, the junior went for 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, before adding 17 points, six boards, four blocks and two steals against St. Thomas.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Paige Richards, Marian

Richards led Marian at the Wright State Classic with an eighth-place individual finish. Richards scored a 776 over four games, posting a top single-game score of 220.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Hayden Fowler, Marian

Fowler finished second in the individual standings at the Wright State Classic, bowling a score of 928 through four games. Fowler helped MU win the team title and rolled a game-high of 265.
