Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 13-19

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from October 13 through 19. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Khori Dryden, Marian

Dryden posted double-doubles in each of RV Marian’s wins, leading the Knights past No. 12 MVNU and Bethel. The junior averaged 3.8 kills and 3.1 digs per set on the week, posting 19 kills and 14 digs in four sets against BU and 15 kills and 14 digs in a five-set upset of MVNU.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Nicole Wilkinson, Marian

Wilkinson returned to the lineup for RV Marian with an immediate impact, averaging 1.2 blocks and 2.3 kills per set. The senior middle had five blocks in a four-set win over Bethel, before posting six blocks in a five-set win over No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter continued her stellar season with 37 assists and eight digs in No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan’s sweep of Bethel. The outing was Porter’s lone match of the week.

 

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Eliza Luttrell, Taylor

Luttrell scored three goals and dished out one assist for No. 16 Taylor in wins over Saint Francis and Mount Vernon Nazarene. The junior forward had one goal and one helper against USF, before scoring both of TU’s goals in a 2-0 triumph against MVNU.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ivy Cline, Grace

Cline posted a pair of shutouts in goal for No. 17 Grace, posting a combined four saves in the two victories. The keeper helped the Lancers top No. 13 Spring Arbor for a 2-0 count and Goshen by a 3-0 margin.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Luis Munoz, Grace

Munoz propelled No. 20 Grace to wins over RV Spring Arbor and Goshen with eight points in the two matches. The junior forward had one goal and two assists in each contest, closing the week with two goals and four helpers.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Vasco Tavares, Grace

Tavares helped Grace past Spring Arbor and Goshen by a combined score of 8-1. The  sophomore defender also fueled the Lancer attack, putting three shots on goal and finding the back of the net in GC’s shutout win over Goshen.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Tammy Liplin, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Liplin ran a time of 19:02.4 for Mount Vernon Nazarene at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic. That performance helped Liplin end in 11th out of 194 individuals at the event.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ryan Lehman, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Lehman led MVNU at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic, finishing fourth-of-250 competitors at the event. Lehman crossed with a time of 25:55.6.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Eleanor Schuitema, Taylor

Schuitema won a playoff to claim medalist honors at the Crossroads League Fall Preview. The sophomore secured her second-straight first-place finish with rounds of 76, 72 and 74, overtaking the lead with a score of two-over par in the final 36 holes.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Karson Cabe, Indiana Wesleyan

Cabe led IWU to its best team finish of the fall campaign, taking fourth on the individual leaderboard to help the Wildcats end in second. Cabe posted scores of 69, 70 and 77 on the par-72 course.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Alexandra Burkholder, Bethel

Burkholder registered a top-10 finish out of 137 bowlers at the Ohio Bowling Conference Meet. The junior posted scores of 203, 165 and 190 to finish with a combined score of 568.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Zachary Morrison, Bethel

Morrison ended 20th-of-245 at the Ohio Bowling Conference Meet. The freshman posted scores of 202, 211 and 196 for a total of 609 over the three games.
