Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 21-27

 JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from October 21 through 27. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan

Joldersma kept No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan rolling with two more double-double outputs in a pair of sweeps for the Wildcats. Joldersma averaged 4.8 kills, 3.7 digs and 0.3 blocks per set, while hitting at a .314 clip.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
McKaylah Flagle, Taylor

Flagle anchored the backrow defense for TU in a four-set win over Spring Arbor, posting her third-straight match with at least 25 digs. In two matches for the week Flagle averaged 6.1 digs per set, registering 43 total digs and receiving 48-of-49 serves.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter posted 12.3 assists per set for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Wildcats to sweeps of No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene and Huntington. Porter recorded a double-double in the HU match and posted 74 assists, 20 digs and four blocks in the two wins.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Jackie Norris, Indiana Wesleyan
Norris tallied four points in a 5-0 Senior Day win for No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan. The senior forward struck for one goal and two assists in the IWU win over Huntington.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jasmin Slump, Grace
Slump played all 90 minutes of RV Grace’s 1-0 win over Goshen, anchoring a defense in the shutout win and scoring the only goal of the contest to lift the Lancers to a victory.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Joao Ratinho, Huntington
Ratinho powered RV Huntington’s 2-1 upset win over No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan by scoring each of the Foresters’ goals in the contest. Ratinho had just three shots in the match, finding the net twice.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Brayden Pierson, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Pierson racked up seven saves for Mount Vernon Nazarene in a 1-0 upset of RV Marian in the Cougar’s lone outing of the week.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jaynie Halterman, Taylor
Halterman was at it again for No. 2 Taylor, this time leading the field across the line at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge with a Taylor 5k-record time of 16:57.8. The freshman’s fourth win in as many collegiate races helped the Trojans to their third team title of the fall.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Eli Fullerton, Indiana Wesleyan
Fullerton ran the second-fastest time in Indiana Wesleyan’s history, crossing with a mark of 24:12.6 to win the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. The win was Fullerton’s third of the season for the No. 7 Wildcats.

 

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Peyton Murphy, Grace
Murphy posted a double-double in Grace’s 83-82 victory against Concordia. Murphy finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block to help the Lancers overcome a 15-point deficit.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Angela Roshak, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Roshak led Mount Vernon Nazarene to a season-opening, 86-69, win at Cleary by posting five blocks and four steals in the victory. In addition, Roshak added 11 points and four rebounds for the Cougars.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Preston Phillips, Bethel
Phillips got Bethel off to a strong start with 28 points in an 86-61 win over Governors State. The senior forward was nine-of-13 from the field and also collected 13 points and four assists in his double-double performance.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Anton Webb, Taylor
Webb filled the stat sheets for Taylor in a pair of season-opening victories in Arizona. The senior forward averaged 10.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 7.5 defensive caroms, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per outing for the Trojans.
