Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 22-28

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of October 22 through 28. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Brett Vipperman, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Vipperman flirted with a triple-double while leading No. 15 MVNU past No. 5 Indiana Tech in a double-overtime thriller. Vipperman ended with 29 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, while hitting 12-of-19 field goals in 48:20 of action.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Bradbury, Taylor

Bradbury opened with two 20-point games to lead No. 19 Taylor to a pair of comfortable wins. Bradbury closed the week averaging 20.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks and shooting 92.9 percent from the free throw line.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Philip Keller, Bethel

Keller made five saves in a shutout win for Bethel over Saint Francis, lifting the Pilots to the third seed in the upcoming league tourney with a 4-0 win.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Filipe Mendonca, Indiana Wesleyan

Mendonca was busy in IWU’s regular season finale, scoring twice and assisting another in a 3-2 win over Goshen that secured a spot in the CL Tournament for the Wildcats.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany Blackwood, Grace

Blackwood posted her NAIA-leading 14th shutout of the season for No. 24 Grace, pushing the Lancers past No. 11 Marian in a 1-0 shutout that gave GC a share of the Crossroads League Championship.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Allison Vroon, Grace

Vroon scored the game-winner for No. 24 Grace in its upset of No. 11 Marian, netting the strike in the 98th minute to help the Lancers grab a share of the CL Championship for the first time in program history.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Caylie Teel, Grace

Teel averaged an astounding 5.1 kills per set on a .285 percentage over three matches for Grace, leading the Lancers with 51 kills, 31 digs and four blocks. Teel highlighted the week with 27 kills in 57 swings during a four-set win over MVNU.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Valorie Flick, Saint Francis

Flick became USF’s career-leader in digs with 1,886 and helped the RV Cougars to a share of the league title for their first championship since 2003. Flick averaged 4.7 digs per game and ended the week with 47 digs in three Saint Francis wins.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Maria Pelak, Saint Francis

Pelak averaged 11.4 assists and 3.9 digs per game, grabbed two double-doubles and led RV Saint Francis to a share of its second league championship in program history. Pelak tossed up 114 assists and had 39 digs in the three USF wins.
