Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 27-November 2

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from October 27 through November 2. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan

Joldersma led No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan to key wins over RV Marian and RV Taylor with a pair of 20-kill double-doubles. The NAIA’s top attacker averaged 5.3 kills, 3.3 digs and 1.0 blocks per set for the Wildcats.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Ruth Anderson, Taylor

Anderson continued her stellar play at the net for RV Taylor of late, racking up 10 blocks in each of TU’s matches with Saint Francis and No. 8 IWU. The freshman posted 20 blocks in the two contests, averaging 2.5 blocks and 2.1 kills per set.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter turned in a pair of 50-assist efforts to lead No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan past RV Marian and RV Taylor. The senior All-American setter averaged 11.4 assists, 4.6 digs and 0.6 blocks per set in the two Wildcat wins.

 

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Wert, Marian

Wert helped No. 2 Marian seal its outright Crossroads League Championship with two goals and one assist in a 3-0 win over USF. The sophomore had a part in all three goals, picking up five points and netting the game-winner for the Knights.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Miller, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Miller picked up five saves and a shutout in goal for Mount Vernon Nazarene, helping the Cougars to a 4-0 win over Huntington.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Gustavo Nunes, Marian

Nunes led RV Marian past Saint Francis in a high-scoring contest, netting two goals in the 5-3 win for the Knights. Nunes only took two shots in the game, finding the net with each attempt.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Maarten Schouten, Bethel

Schouten’s clean sheet in goal for No. 4 Bethel helped the Pilots to a 2-0 win over No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman logged one save in the top-10 clash to help BU secure the regular season CL Championship.

 

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Kaycie Warfel, Taylor

Warfel sank 13-of-24 field goals in her Odle Arena debut and finished with 37 points in Taylor’s 80-72 win over IUSB. The freshman guard also dished out five assists and added nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks in one of the finest single-game showings in TU history.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Kaycie Warfel, Taylor

Warfel was all over the court in Taylor’s 80-72 win over IUSB, picking up four steals, two blocks and nine total rebounds to compliment her 37-point outburst and five assists on the offensive end.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Caedmon Bontrager, Indiana Wesleyan

Bontrager posted three-straight double-doubles to help No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan to a 3-0 start. The junior forward averaged 22.0 points, 15.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game, while shooting 64.1 percent from the field.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Isaiah Brown, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Brown led Mount Vernon Nazarene to a pair of victories with 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing on the defensive end. The sophomore forward had five steals and two blocks in MVNU’s blowout of Kent State Tuscarawas.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Mary Brooks, Marian

Brooks took 17th in the individual standings at the Bowlero South Collegiate Classic. The junior helped Marian to a top-10 team finish with a five-game score of 922.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Maxwell Berche, Marian

Berche finished 12th overall at the Bowlero South Collegiate Classic, bowling a score of 1,065 over five games with a top score of 247.
