Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 28-November 3
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from October 28 through November 3. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Lyssi Snouffer, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Snouffer powered No. 16 Mount Vernon Nazarene past No. 18 Grace and Spring Arbor with 5.3 kills, 4.8 digs and 0.4 blocks per contest. Snouffer posted double-doubles in each outing, logging a 20-20 performance in a five-set win over the Lancers.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Emma Lyons, Marian
Lyons had a 40-dig effort in a four-set loss to No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan for No. 24 Marian. The CL’s leading dig artist ended the week with 7.7 digs per match against IWU and Goshen, tallying a combined 54 digs in the two matches.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter had two more 40-assist showings for No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan, tossing up 43 helpers in each of IWU’s wins over No. 24 Marian and Taylor. Porter added 13 digs and five blocks in a double-double against the Knights.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Lauren Marshall, Spring Arbor
Marshall scored the lone goal of the day in a 1-0 win for No. 13 Spring Arbor over No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan. The goal secured the victory for SAU and gave the Cougars the regular season Crossroads League Championship.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Reagan Kohler, Spring Arbor
Kohler piled up seven saves for No. 13 Spring Arbor in a 1-0 win over No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan to secure the CL Championship.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Samuel Wehaus, Marian
Wehaus scored twice in a 2-2 draw for RV Marian against RV Huntington. The freshman forward found the back of the net twice in a five-minute span during the second half to help MU secure the tie.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Benjamin Venegas, Bethel
Venegas helped No. 15 Bethel post a 2-0 shutout of RV Grace by recording five saves in goal for the Pilots.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Alana Nelson, Spring Arbor
Nelson posted back-to-back double-doubles for Spring Arbor in blowout wins over Cleary and IU-Columbus, Nelson averaged 26.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals in the two wins, while shooting 53.7 percent from the field.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Lilli Frasure, Indiana Wesleyan
Frasure recorded a triple-double with 26 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals in No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan’s 89-60 win over St. Xavier and averaged 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 defensive boards and 6.5 steals in a pair of dominant Wildcat victories.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Gabe Newhof, Spring Arbor
Newhof led RV Spring Arbor against a pair of RV foes, with 24.0 points per night on 66.7-percent shooting from the floor. The junior forward also grabbed 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per contest for the Cougars.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Anton Webb, Taylor
Webb continued his strong start to the season and helped keep Taylor unbeaten by averaging 16.5 rebounds, 12.0 defensive boards, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks for TU in a pair of wins. In addition to his work in the paint, Webb netted 12.5 points and 4.0 assists per outing.
