Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 30-November 5
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from October 30 through November 5. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Alize Tripp, Spring Arbor
Tripp averaged 24.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for Spring Arbor over a pair of contests. The senior guard shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from three-point range.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gabe Newhof, Spring Arbor
Newhof shot 71.9 percent from the field while averaging 26.0 points per game to lead Spring Arbor in a pair of victories. The sophomore post also grabbed 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for the Cougars.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Cheyanne Seymour, Bethel
Seymour led No. 17 Bethel to a sweep of Grace in the CL Tournament Quarterfinals with a 15-kill, 12-dig double-double. Seymour committed just four errors in 28 swings and posted a .393 hitting percentage in the victory.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Emma Lyons, Marian
Lyons registered 35 digs in RV Marian’s four-set win over Spring Arbor to open postseason play. The sophomore libero added one ace and seven assists in the win.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Haley Biedenbach, Bethel
Biedenbach posted 40 assists, four digs and one ace to help No. 17 Bethel to a sweep of Grace in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Jackie Norris, Indiana Wesleyan
Norris came off the bench to post two goals, including the eventual game-winner in No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan’s 3-1 win over Grace in the CL Quarterfinals.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jael Schubert, Bethel
Schubert picked up 13 saves for Bethel in its 1-1 draw with No. 25 Taylor, before making two stops in the shootout to help the Pilots advance into the CL Tournament Semifinals.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
David Magalhaes, Spring Arbor
Magalhaes scored twice and added an assist to have a role in all three of Spring Arbor’s goals in its 3-1 win over Huntington to open the CL Tournament.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Spiegel, Taylor
Spiegel held No. 5 Grace scoreless over 110 minutes of work for Taylor in the goal. Speigel registered six saves in regulation and overtime to help the Trojans battle to a 0-0 draw with the Lancers in the opening round of the CL Tournament.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Anna Martin, Huntington
Martin recorded a time of 21:52 to lead all runners at the Crossroads League Championships, helping No. 22 Huntington to a runner-up team finish.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Colten Covington, Indiana Wesleyan
Covington raced to the individual Crossroads League Championship with a time of 24:48 to help No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan secure a dominant team title.
