Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | September 15-21

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from September 15 through 21. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Shae Williams, Indiana Wesleyan
Williams hit .412 for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan in sweeps of No. 16 MVNU and Huntington. The freshman tallied 18 kills in 34 swings with just four errors and added five blocks in the two matches.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Jessica Ickes, Indiana Wesleyan
Ickes was a force at the net for No. 7 IWU in a pair of wins, registering 10 total blocks in the two sweeps. On the week, Ickes posted 1.7 blocks and 2.2 kills per set for the Wildcats.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter kept No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan rolling, averaging 13.8 assists, 2.8 digs, 1.2 kills and 1.1 blocks per set in sweeps of No. 16 Mount Vernon Nazarene and Huntington. The senior posted 46 assists, 11 digs, two blocks and four kills against HU.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Nora Pollock, Grace
Pollock was busy for No. 23 Grace in its 10-0 blowout of Shawnee State. The freshman forward tallied two goals and two assists for a total of six points in the contest.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jaylin Young, Grace
Young helped No. 23 Grace to a pair of shutouts, as the Lancers played to a scoreless draw with No. 5 Cumberlands and then blasted Shawnee State by a 10-0 count. Young and the Lancers did not yield a shot attempt in either match.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Luis Munoz, Grace
Munoz found the net in each of No. 22 Grace’s victories, scoring once in a 3-1 win over Governors State and striking again in a 3-0 win against Holy Cross.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Chucho Salgado, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Salgado did it all for MVNU in a 5-0 win over Brescia, scoring twice from his defensive position, while also helping limit the opponent to a single shot in the shutout win.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Will Baker, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Baker broke his own school record with a time of 24:37.9 at the All-Ohio Meet, finishing second out of 383 competitors.

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Sage Parsetich, Indiana Wesleyan
Parsetich took fifth for No. 13 IWU at the Brittany Kelly Classic with scores of 71, 75 and 74. The junior’s performance helped the Wildcats to a third-place finish on the team leaderboard.

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Lane Zedrick, Marian
Zedrick carded scores of 67, 62, 70 to finish second overall at the Northwest Iowa Invite, helping No. 14 Marian secure the team title.
