Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | September 2-8

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Tuesday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from September 2 through 8. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Martina Demarchi, Indiana Wesleyan
Demarchi led the No. 7 Wildcat attack with 26 kills on a .333 hitting percentage in wins over No. 21 Grace and Spring Arbor. Demarchi finished the two matches averaging 4.3 kills and 0.7 blocks per set.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Nicole Wilkinson, Marian
Wilkinson controlled the net for No. 24 Marian in its wins over Spring Arbor and Saint Francis. The senior middle hitter tallied 11 total blocks and nine kills in the two wins, while hitting .318.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan
Porter helped No. 7 IWU to sweeps of No. 21 Grace and SAU with 12.3 assists per set. Porter had at least 35 assists in each match and added five service aces in the 3-0 win against Spring Arbor.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Fara Serra, Spring Arbor
Serra led No. 7 Spring Arbor to a pair of comfortable victories with three goals on seven shots. The senior found the net twice in a 5-2 win over Rochester Christian and scored again in a 4-1 win over Lindsey Wilson.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Meghan Kiebel, Bethel
Kiebel recorded a pair of clean sheet victories in goal for Bethel, as the Pilots scored 1-0 wins over Siena Heights and Judson. The second-year goalie registered three saves in each shutout to close the week with six total stops.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Daniel Martinez, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Martinez picked up six points for MVNU in a win over Defiance and a draw with Campbellsville. Martinez posted two goals in the 4-0 win over DC and scored another in the 2-2 tie with CU.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Tim Slusarczyk, Indiana Wesleyan
Slusarczyk did it all for No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan in wins over UNOH and No. 21 Rio Grande. The senior defender helped the Wildcats blank the ranked Rio Grande team by a 4-0 margin and also scored a goal in that affair, while assisting a score in IWU’s 3-1 victory over UNOH.

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jaynie Halterman, Taylor
Halterman stole the show in her first collegiate race, leading the field across the line for No. 4 Taylor at the season-opening IWU Twilight Invite. Halterman topped the field of 213 competitors by 14 seconds with a time of 21:58.2 to lead TU to its team title.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Eli Fullerton, Indiana Wesleyan
Fullerton led No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan on his home course by topping the field of 278 runners at the IWU Twilight Invite. Fullerton took first with a time of 24:43.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Szilvi Ferenczy, Bethel
Ferenczy led Bethel to a trio of victories, including the program’s first win over No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan in 33 years. The senior went 3-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Pilots and also picked up a key win at No. 1 doubles in the victory over IWU.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Santiago Sarudiansky, Huntington
Sarudiansky went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 and 2 doubles for Huntington, finishing the week with a 5-1 overall mark. The play of Sarudiansky led HU past No. 24 Marian, as well as to wins over Siant Francis and Spring Arbor.
