Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | September 8-14
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from September 8 through 14. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ellie Frey, Taylor
Frey led No. 22 Taylor past RV Grace and Huntington in a pair of four-set victories by posting 5.4 kills and 4.0 digs per set. The junior had double-doubles in each match, with 23 kills against Grace and 20 against Huntington.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Jaelyn Tang, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Tang anchored the back row for No. 15 MVNU with 6.5 digs per set in its wins over Huntington and No. 16 Marian. The senior libero had 18 digs in a sweep of HU, before tallying 34 digs in a five-set thriller against the Knights.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Reagan Nuss, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Nuss had a pair of 40-assist efforts to help No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene past No. 16 Marian and Huntington. Nuss averaged 10.4 assists per set and also chipped in defensively with 3.8 digs and 0.6 blocks per set for the Cougars.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Eliza Luttrell, Taylor
Luttrell scored 12 points for RV Taylor in lopsided wins over St. Mary of the Woods and Cornerstone. The forward had two goals and two helpers in an 8-0 win at SMW, before logging a hat trick on just three shots in a 9-1 win over Cornerstone.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Avery Sluss, Indiana Wesleyan
Sluss helped No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan past Lourdes and No. 7 Aquinas with 180 minutes of near flawless work in the net for the Wildcats. The junior goalie highlighted her week with a four-save shutout in a 1-0 win against Aquinas.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
William Jackson, Goshen
Jackson led Goshen to a pair of victories by scoring one goal in each outing. The junior forward had two goals, three shots on goal and four total shots on the week, helping Goshen reach its best seven-match start (5-1-1) since 2005.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Pedro Galante, Grace
Galante posted two shutouts in goal for RV Grace and grabbed seven saves in the two wins. In a 1-0 upset of No. 12 Indiana Tech, Galante had four stops, before adding three more in a 4-0 win over Trinity Christian.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Anna Enderle, Bethel
Enderle ran a personal-best 5,000-meters time of 18:30.2 for Bethel at the Diemer Classic, finishing in sixth place out of 59 runners to pace the Pilots.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Duncan Kogie, Goshen
Kogei showed well against Big Ten competition at the Auto Owners Spartan Invitational, posting a time of 24:58.4 to take 49th out of 291 at the meet.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Addison Meadows, Indiana Wesleyan
Meadows topped the field at the Rohrman Invitational with scores of 72, 80 and 78 for the Wildcats to finish in first place out of 51 competitors.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Earl Williams, Bethel
Williams finished atop the leaderboard at the Pretty Lake Intercollegiate, tying for first place among 48 competitors. The junior fired successive rounds of 67, 69 and 67 to finish the event 13 shots under-par.
