Dordt (Iowa) Outlasts Bethel (TN) to Advance to Championship

The game started with both teams matching each other, as the Defenders led by just three points at the end of the first quarter (17-14). However, as the game progressed, Dordt steadily increased their lead. By halftime, the score was 36-28 in favor of Dordt. They continued to widen the gap in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats in the third and fourth quarters, resulting in a final score of 84-52.

Dordt’s victory was driven by a well-rounded team performance. Janie Van Donge was a standout player, contributing a double-double of 20 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, showcasing her work in the paint. Macy Sievers also played a crucial role, posting a double-double of 14 points while dishing out 11 assists as she effectively orchestrated Dordt’s offense. Gracie Schoonhoven provided a spark off the bench, adding 15 points in just 19 minutes of play.

Bethel struggled offensively, shooting only 29.3% from the field. Micah Hart was the top scorer for Bethel with 20 points. Madison Hart added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Dordt recorded an outstanding shooting efficiency, hitting 54.4% of their field goals and 75% from beyond the arc. Their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, coupled with their strong defensive rebounding (31 defensive rebounds), limited Bethel’s second-chance points and played a pivotal role in their victory.

The Defenders advance to the championship match for the second time in two years to defend their title. Dordt will face off vs Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m. CT Tuesday, March 25.
