Plymouth – Ancilla College women’s bowling Coach Al Franklin was named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Coach-of-the-Year in women’s bowling.
Franklin has guided the women to the MCCAA championship, the NJCAA Regional 12, District G championship and a second place finish nationally at the NJCAA National tournament last weekend.
Three of his women, Taylor Ellison, Alecia Albanese and Megan Heflin were named all-Americans. Ellison was second in the singles competition and Albanese and Brooklyn Schutz placed second in the double competition. Most of the women’s bowling team this year are freshmen. Franklin has proven to have an excellent eye for talent and has been a great recruiter.
Franklin began the Ancilla bowling program last year and took a full men’s team and a partial women’s team to nationals in his first season. His men’s team this year placed second in the conference, the region and nationally. They were in first place at nationals heading into the final event.
