Georgia picked up 44 of 54 first-place votes and remained No. 1 for the third consecutive week after defeating Tennessee Tech 48-3 at home in Week 2. The top ranking for Georgia marks the 37th appearance at No. 1 for the Bulldogs, placing the Dawgs second behind Alabama’s 61 No. 1 appearances. An SEC team has been ranked No. 1 in the poll 58 of the last 59 weeks dating back to Sept. 29, 2019.
Texas received eight first-place votes and moved up one slot to No. 2 after defeating Michigan 31-12 in Ann Arbor. The No. 2 ranking ties the highest ranking for the Longhorns in the Super 16 Poll.
Ole Miss advanced three spots to No. 5 by virtue of its 49-point victory over Middle Tennessee, marking the highest ranking for the Rebels since taking the No. 3 spot on Sept. 27, 2015.
Miami (FL) moved up four spots to No. 6 after defeating Florida A&M 56-9, which marks the highest ranking for the Hurricanes since being ranked No. 2 on Nov. 19, 2017.
Michigan fell seven spots to No. 16 after losing to Texas at home. The No. 16 ranking represents the lowest ranking for the Wolverines since last being left out of the poll on Sept. 21, 2021.
Notre Dame, which ranked No. 5 last week, completely fell out of the poll after losing to Northern Illinois 14-16 at home, marking only the second time a team has fallen out of the poll after being ranked in the top five the previous week. The only other time occurred in 2016 after No. 5 LSU lost to unranked Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.
Kansas State joined the poll for the first time this season, claiming No. 15 respectively.
The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams, followed by the Big Ten with five, Big 12 with three and the ACC with one.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2024 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 8.
