GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament Bracket Released

INDIANAPOLIS – The bracket is set for this week’s 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, which will return for the third year to U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark, Missouri, May 9-12.

In arguably the most competitive regular season in league history, just three games separated the top eight seeds, which included tri-GLVC regular season champions in Maryville University, Missouri S&T and Quincy University, as well as a three-way tie for the next three seeds.
Two-time defending GLVC Champion Quincy (30-16, 22-11 GLVC) was awarded the top seed, while Maryville (27-20, 22-11) garnered the No. 2 seed and Missouri S&T (30-15, 22-11) picked up the No. 3 seed. When three or more teams are tied, the GLVC uses its all-sports tiebreak in Section 1.C.4 of the GLVC Handbook where records between the tied squads are compared in an effort to either seed all or eliminate one team before reverting back to the GLVC baseball tiebreak.

Both Maryville and Quincy competed against Missouri S&T, however Maryville and Quincy did not play one another in the regular season. Given that Quincy went 3-0 against Missouri S&T and Maryville was 2-1 against the Miners, S&T was awarded the No. 3 seed. Section 2.B.6.b.ii of the GLVC Handbook was used to break the tie between Quincy and Maryville given the two teams record against S&T – the next best team in the league standings.
Drury University (29-21, 21-12), University of Illinois Springfield (34-14-1, 21-12), and University of Southern Indiana (29-19, 21-12) all tied for fourth in the regular season. Using Section 1.C.4 to break the tie, UIS went 5-1 against the other two tied teams, Drury was 3-3, and Southern Indiana was 1-5, thus providing a natural order of finish with UIS, Drury and USI earning the Nos. 4-5-6 seeds, respectively.
Bellarmine University (29-19, 20-13) is the No. 7 seed, while Lewis University (27-22, 19-14) edged out the University of Indianapolis (30-20, 19-14) for the No. 8 seed based on the Flyers winning the head-to-head series with the Greyhounds, 2-1.
Tournament action begins on Thursday, May 9, with No. 4 seed Illinois Springfield battling No. 5 Drury at 9 a.m. CT. Game two features No. 3 Missouri S&T against No. 6 Southern Indiana at 12:30 p.m. CT. The third game of the day has No. 2 Maryville facing No. 7 Bellarmine at 4 p.m. CT, while the 7:30 p.m. CT nightcap features top-seed Quincy against No. 8 Lewis.

Friday and Saturday action will feature four games at the same times – 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:30 p.m. – with Sunday’s championship contest based on “if necessary” games.

Tickets for the 40th annual conference tournament are $15 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for seniors 65 and older and youth ages 6-17, while kids 5-and-under are free. The GLVC is offering an All-Tournament pass for $55.

Each GLVC Championship Tournament contest will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network. Coverage can be seen by logging on to the GLVCSN’s official website, GLVCSN.com, or on the GLVCSN iOS/Android mobile apps, as well as on the Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT platforms. Live stats can be found on the official Championship page at GLVCsports.com/2019baseball. Updates will also be included on the GLVC’s official Twitter accounts (@GLVCsports and @GLVCSN) with the hashtags, #GLVCbase, and #GLVCchamps.
