Goshen High School and Edward Jones Student Athletes of the Month – October 2017

Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence.  A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August-May each school year.  At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS coaching staff.

The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October are:

Raina Shreiner Barger:  Raina is the daughter of Lori Shreiner and Jude Barger.  Raina has been named a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete her entire high school career.  For volleyball, Raina has been awarded Academic All-State, Beets Hoke Teamwork award, most assists (2017), MVP (2017), and is a 4-year letter winner.  Raina is a member of the Crimsonaire Choir, Women’s Empowerment club, National Honor Society, a student rotarian, and a Stay-in-Bounds ambassador.  Outside of school, Raina competes in travel volleyball.  In the future, Raina plans to attend college to major in Biomedical engineering.

Lucas Bontreger:  Lucas is the son of Fran and Myron Bontreger. In the month of October, Lucas helped the boys soccer program win the Sectional and the Regional title.  In the 4 games of state competition, he scored 4 goals and was one of the players who scored in the Penalty Kick shootout.  Lucas scored the game winner in 2 of the 4 games.  Along the way, he broke the school record in season goals and career goals.   Through his hard work and dedication in soccer, Lucas has been awarded MVP (2016 & 2017), NLC All-Conference (2015, 2016, & 2017), All-District 1st Team (2016 & 2017), 4-year letter winner, and a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete his entire high school career.  Lucas also participates in PACT at GHS and his church’s youth group.  After high school, Lucas plans to attend Goshen College to study business.
