Goshen sweeps Bethel softball

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots (8-27, 4-18) competed against Goshen College (21-13, 10-10) in the US Highway 20 Cup on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, but The Maples Leafs defeated the Pilots 8-4 in both games.

GAME 1

Bethel opened the game with Madison Shaw’s RBI single, which brought in Alyssa Forys and made the score 1-0.

Meghan Younger had an RBI single in the 4th to bring in Emily Kidwell, followed by an error by Goshen, which allowed Maggie Robbins to reach first.

That error let Morgan Blubaum and Younger reach home to tie the game at 4-4.

Goshen scored one in the 5th and three in the 7th to win 8-4.

Ryann Norris pitched seven innings with one walk, three strikeouts, and 15 hits on 112 pitches.

 

GAME 2

2-1 was the score after the first inning as Younger had a 2 RBI single that brought in Madison Shaw and Maggie Robbins.

Bethel scored one in the 4th as a wild pitch was thrown, and everyone on base advanced, with Emily Kidwell making it home.

Kidwell then had a single RBI in the 5th to make the game 8-4 Goshen, but the Pilots were unable to grab more runs as the Leafs swept the Pilots.

Shelby White pitched three innings with seven hits and three walks on 84 pitches.

Norris finished the game with one strikeout, a walk, and five hits on 56 pitches.
NEXT TIME OUT

The Pilots will be at home on April 12th as they take on University of Saint Francis at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
