Grace/WCHS to host professional basketball games in February

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace College and Warsaw Community High School are partnering to host a pair of professional basketball games in late February.

The Basketball League (TBL) is a growing minor league basketball league, which began in 2018. The Indiana All-Americans of the TBL will take on the Sudbury Five of Canada’s National Basketball League. The teams will face off at Grace’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Warsaw’s Tiger Den will also host a TBL team (Lebanon Leprechauns) on Friday, Feb. 25.

The TBL has over 40 teams in the league, scattered across the United States.

“We are excited to welcome professional basketball to Grace College. We look forward to partnering with The Basketball League to provide a great experience for fans in our community,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “I appreciate all the work being done by the Kosciusko Chamber to bring the TBL to our community! It should be a great night of basketball at the MOCC.”

David Magley and Kent Benson spoke recently about the upcoming games at Grace and Warsaw. Magley, the NBL’s President, was the 1978 Indiana Mr. Basketball who later starred at the University of Kansas.

“The Basketball League is a high level of competition. We have great athletes who bring an entertaining brand of basketball to the court,” Magley said. “We are excited to bring professional basketball to this great community, which we really feel is a hotbed of basketball in the state.”

Benson is the team market owner for the Indiana All-Americans. He is an Indiana basketball legend, winning Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1973, leading Indiana University to the last undefeated NCAA championship in 1976 and being selected No. 1 in the NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1977.

“We are excited for the upcoming games in Warsaw and Winona Lake. The Indiana All-Americans have tremendous talent, and our players have high character as well,” Benson said. “We feel that we’ve put together a team that can compete for the championship in the TBL, and we are excited to showcase our team at Grace and Warsaw.”

Tickets for the Feb. 24 game at Grace are for sale online at www.gclancers.com/tickets and will also be available at the gate.
