Haney Named Assistant Coordinator for Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium

June 5, 2018

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium, LLC, representing the Big Ten Conference, Horizon League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mid-American Conference (MAC), Summit League, America East Conference, and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), announced Monday that Jim Haney has been named an Assistant Coordinator of Men’s Officiating.  He will be assigned to the America East Conference beginning with the 2018-19 season.

Haney, a resident of Easton, Pa., who is currently the NCAA Division III National Coordinator of Officials, brings more than three decades of NCAA Division I officiating experience to the Consortium.  Haney spent 32 seasons as a referee in conferences such as the Big Ten, Big East, ACC, Atlantic 10, America East, Patriot and Ivy League. He has also served as a coordinator of officials at both the high school and collegiate levels, as well as an evaluator of officials for the Big Ten Conference and Patriot League.

“Our Consortium is thrilled to bring Jim Haney onboard our management team,” said COC Executive Director and Big Ten Associate Commissioner, Rick Boyages.  “Jim had a distinguished career as an elite collegiate official, has assessed performance as an observer for us over the past few seasons, and possesses a genuine love for the game of basketball. He is an exceptional communicator and teacher with a real working knowledge of the America East Conference. Jim will be a tremendous asset to both the America East and our organization”.

“We are proud to be a member of the COC and saw significant enhancements to our men’s basketball officiating program in our first year with the consortium,” said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. “Jim has vast knowledge of our conference through years as an official and we look forward to working with him to continue to elevate our officiating program.”

The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium now provides multi-regional oversight of men’s basketball officiating operations for 79 collegiate institutions in 22 states. Haney takes over the role previously held by former America East Associate Commissioner, Frank Sullivan, who oversaw America East’s men’s basketball officiating operation since 2007.
